Chrome OS (CR-48)

I was lucky enough to be accepted to the Google Chrome OS pilot program. I received a CR-48 laptop from Google as part of the pilot. The CR-48 was designed by Google as the first laptop to run the Google Chrome OS. You can see more about the laptop itself by visiting The Google Pilot Program page. At this time, the pilot program application page is still accepting entries.

This page will track information and links that I come across related to the CR-48 laptop and the Google Chrome OS.

WiFi Connectivity after Resume

posted Feb 7, 2011 6:52 PM by Frank Johnson

The one constant issue I have been plagued with since day one is the CR-48 Chrome OS Laptop has been the WiFi connectivity when it resumes from sleep mode. More often than not after the computer resumes, the WiFi shows every indication of connectivity (including an IP address) but without actual connectivity. A simple disabling and re-enabling of the WiFi and I'm off and running again. I have tried switching out my wireless router as well as changing different security settings, but nothing so far as seemed to resolve the issue 100%. I have updating the "Chrome Ninja's" on my findings a couple of times. "Ninja" seems to be an excellent name for these evasive little guys!

CR-48 Power Supply

Ever since getting my CR-48, I have been in search of a second power supply. While the CR-48's battery life is simply outstanding, I still find my self carrying the power supply around, primarily between work and home. I was able to get a nice laptop sleeve for the CR-48 so carrying the power supply is an inconvenience. After searching today, I finally found an answer. According to the post I found, the Chrome Ninja's have recommended the Lenmar LAC50, a universal notebook power adapter that can be set to 19V/2A and works great!

I have been using the CR-48 laptop since the week before Christmas. I have made every effort to use this laptop as my primary device (outside of work) as requested by the pilot program. As expected, the concept of utilizing only service in the "cloud" is still someone in its infancy, therefore it is not yet realistic that I can operate 100% in the Cloud. There are still a handful of (Windows) apps that I still require, however for the most part I have made an effort to move to the Cloud wherever possible. Even before taking part in the pilot program, I had migrated my domain to Google Apps and began migrating my personal documents from MS Office to Google Docs.
